Family Limitation

"Family Limitation" by Margaret Sanger is a pamphlet published in 1914. One of the first birth control guides in the United States, this sixteen-page work provides detailed contraceptive information, including methods, ingredients, illustrations, and instructions. Its publication forced Sanger to flee to Britain to avoid prosecution under the Comstock Act, which criminalized distributing contraception information. The pamphlet aimed both to challenge anti-obscenity laws and to give working-class women control over their bodies. Sanger published twelve editions, each updating medical advice while gradually moderating her approach.
