Description

"Motion Pictures, 1960-1969: Catalog of Copyright Entries" is a comprehensive reference work that documents motion picture titles registered with the U.S. Copyright Office during the 1960s. The publication includes detailed entries for each work, covering copyright claims, production details, and descriptive information. It serves as a factual record of films produced in that decade, providing bibliographic and registration data for researchers and archivists. The book is arranged chronologically and includes a name index, facilitating access to information on individual titles and their registration history. As a scientific and reference publication, it aims to compile and preserve legal and bibliographic data relating to motion pictures within the specified period, reflecting the evolution of the industry and copyright practices during the 1960s.

The catalog covers motion pictures registered from January 1, 1960, to December 31, 1969, and is intended as a resource for historical, legal, and bibliographic inquiries concerning films of that era.

It is the latest in the series of cumulative catalogs begun in 1951 with Motion Pictures, 1912-1939 and continued with Motion Pictures, 1940-1949 published in 1953, and Motion Pictures, 1950-1959 published in 1960. Another volume, Motion Pictures, 1894-1912 was published in 1953 outside of the series. It lists works copyrighted as photographs prior to 1912 which were identified as motion pictures by Howard Lamarr Walls. These five volumes, together with the current issues of the Catalog of Copyright Entries, Third Series, Parts 12-13, Motion Pictures and Filmstrips , comprise an unbroken record of the copyright registrations of motion pictures and also an extensive, although not complete, record of motion picture production in the United States through the entire history of the industry. The purpose of the cumulative catalogs is threefold: 1) to provide compact index volumes to the legal profession, publishers, authors, and others interested in copyright; 2) to meet the administrative needs of the Copyright Office; and 3) to make available, for other research uses, the information on record in the Copyright Office, much of which is not available elsewhere. The publication of the Catalog of Copyright Entries is authorized by sections 210 and 211 of Title 17 of the United States Code . Section 210 provides in part: "The current catalog of copyright entries and the index volumes herein provided for shall be admitted in any court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards any copyright registration." The information given in the entries for the period 1960-1969 is that which was recorded in catalog entries made at the time of registration. These entries…
