Description
The work presents a dramatic adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass," capturing the curious and fantastical experiences of Alice. The play showcases Alice’s encounters with a variety of eccentric characters, including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts, as she falls through a rabbit hole into an surreal world. The narrative emphasizes themes of identity, curiosity, and the absurdity of social conventions, reflecting the whimsical and nonsensical tone of the original stories. It was written in the early 20th century, with production and design elements contributed by notable Chicago-based artists and theatre professionals, and was performed in both Chicago and New York in 1915.
The adaptation is a theatrical work that maintains the fantastical elements and character interactions of Carroll’s stories while presenting them in a dramatic format suitable for stage production.
