Description
This work is a military narrative based on the author's experiences during World War I, focusing on the activities of a field artillery brigade. The narrative employs a straightforward chronological account to depict the events, strategies, and decisions involved in warfare from the perspective of soldiers and officers. It begins with the return of the protagonist to his unit after injury, setting the scene for subsequent engagements and battles. The book provides detailed descriptions of military operations, the pressures faced on the frontlines, and the interactions among soldiers and commanders during critical moments of the conflict. Its detailed account of tactics and personal experiences offers insight into the operational aspects of European warfare in the early twentieth century.
Published in 1919, the narrative reflects the immediate post-war context, offering a primary perspective on the military campaigns of World War I. The text is arranged in chapters that chronologically follow the events leading up to and during combat, with particular attention to the experiences of individual soldiers and units. It serves as a historical record of the tactical environment, battlefield conditions, and personal valor during a period of intense European conflict.
